EAST LANSING – The Michigan Education Association is pleased to announce our recommendation of Rashida Tlaib for election to Congress in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.
“Rashida is a proven fighter who will protect our public schools, support our educators, and ensure all our kids have a chance to learn and thrive,” said MEA President Paula Herbart. “Our public schools are under attack, and we need a fearless Congresswoman who will advocate for Michigan students and educators in Washington and at home. Rashida is a relentless worker for the people of Michigan, and we’re excited to work just as hard to send her to Congress to ensure all our communities have great public schools.”
Tlaib was screened and recommended by a committee comprised of MEA members from across the 13th District. This Congressional recommendation was then concurred by the board of the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education at their recent meeting.
As the state’s largest school employee union, MEA and its members – who live and work in every Michigan county – have a long history of political engagement and helping friends of public education win elections.
The NEA Fund for Children and Public Education provides direct financial support to candidates for president, the U.S. House, and the U.S. Senate who will fight to support teachers, staff, and students and improve public educatio
